Vivo MedicoBiotronics 3D

London-based SME leads consortium for FP7 funding

Biotronics3D Ltd, an SME headquartered in London, develops and markets innovative software applications for the diagnostic imaging industry. The company approached the London Innovation Network seeking advice on European funding and looking for partners in Europe.

Having received support from the London Innovation Network, the company submitted a research and development project proposal, iScalpel, under the ICT for Patient Safety FP7 Call. This SME-led project looks at the implementation of novel techniques in cancer diagnostics through image processing of MRI images for visual identification of tumours in human tissue, leading to more precise and less invasive surgeries. Although the proposal has not been successful this time round, it has created new opportunities for the company which is now is in a good position to market with large hospitals and national health organisations from across Europe.

The business has also been assisted by the London Innovation Network through the introduction to Enteric Co-operative, a London based R&D performer, and a research collaboration has been established. As a result, a project proposal has been submitted to a Technology Strategy Board funding scheme – Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI). This partnership has enabled Biotronics3D to further develop a new product. The company expects to design and development their product platform, carry out clinical trials to improve the prototype development, raise awareness of the novel system and seek early feedback from regulators and purchasers.

Harry Hatzakis, CEO of Biotronics3D, says “I would like to express my deepest gratitude for all the assistance the London Innovation Network has provided to our company. Without their support, we would not have established this partnership. In a challenging moving market, this kind of support is critical to leverage skills and opportunities out there”.
