Funding for food, agriculture, fisheries and biotechnology research and development

If you are a high-tech business involved in food, agriculture, fisheries and biotechnology related research this funding could be for you.

FP7 funding for these areas is aimed at building a European Knowledge Based Bio-economy promoting safe and sustainable exploitation of biological resources. This broadly covers research which is relevant to:

  • life sciences
  • biotechnology and biochemistry for sustainable non-food products and processes
  • food (including seafood) health and well-being
  • sustainable production and management of biological resources from land, forest and aquatic environments

Of the €1.9bn dedicated to this funding stream, the share going to businesses is expected to be at least 15% or €285m – so your involvement is strongly encouraged.

Typically projects can access up to €3m, and businesses can finance up to 75% of their R&D costs and 100% of their management costs.

All projects have to be transnational and so you are required to work in partnership with other companies or research institutes based elsewhere in the EU.
